Kansas
City Area Migration Report 1994-2004 Conclusion
- The Kansas City area continues to be seen as a region that provides
opportunity as evidenced by the attraction of 54,000 net new residents through
migration between 1994 and 2004.
- There are two major trends in out-migration.
- Several area residents have moved to surrounding counties (especially
the Lake of the Ozarks area).
- Out-migration to the west and
Sunbelt is significant, reflecting a national population shift.
- Kansas City is a regional
draw. Much of the net in-migration comes from surrounding states.
- Migration
trends over time show a decline in in-migrants over the last few years. However,
the rate of in-migration has consistently been higher than the rate of out-
migration.
