Safe Routes to School education/encouragement programs will reduce families reliance in school bussing and private vehicle trips to/from school. In the long run, kids who grow up walking and biking to school will be more likely to live multimodal lives using walking, biking, transit, etc.

Project Description: This project continues existing Safe Routes to School on-infrastructure funding currently being provided by BikeWalkKC and in partnership with other jurisdictions. It includes Youth Bicycle Education and walking school bus programs at K-12 school sites, technical assistance and student travel planning for schools and school districts, and other outreach and encouragement events. The primary audience is K-12 school students.
Scope: This level of funding represents a continuation of the current scope occurring across the metro area. Approximately 20-25 schools per semester and 5-7 school districts per semester.
