Project Description: This improves the pavement condition along 163rd Street and Boardman Road which serves the only bypass roadway from the north side of Pleasant Hill to downtown and the more densely populated areas of Pleasant Hill. Improvement of this roadway system including flood mitigation and stormwater control will alleviate vehicular traffic on 7 Highway, especially during peak rush hour time periods.
Scope: The Boardman/163rd Street project is 3.3 miles in length and is currently a 2 lane roadway. No additional capacity is being added. During times of flood events, the roadway is closed and the entire stretch to connect downtown to north Pleasant Hill is unavailable. Motorists are still able to traverse Boardman in downtown. The 7 Highway project expands 5 miles of the existing 2 lane state highway to 4 lanes. Center left turn lanes will be added where needed, specifically at Stringtown Road and 155th Street/County Line Road. Pedestrian and bicycle facilities, in the form of a 5 mile shared use bicycle/pedestrian path are included in this project in order to accommodate cyclists seeking to traverse from Lee’s Summit to Pleasant Hill to access the Rock Island Spur of the KATY Trail.
