Safe Routes to School education/encouragement programs will reduce families reliance in school bussing and private vehicle trips to/from school. In the long run, kids who grow up walking and biking to school will be more likely to live multimodal lives using walking, biking, transit, etc.

9. Project description: This project continues existing Safe Routes to School on-infrastructure funding currently being provided by BikeWalkKC and in partnership with other jurisdictions. It includes Youth Bicycle Education and walking school bus programs at K-12 school sites, technical assistance and student travel planning for schools and school districts, and other outreach and encouragement events. The primary audience is K-12 school students.
10. Scope: This level of funding represents a continuation of the current scope occurring across the metro area. Approximately 20-25 schools per semester and 5-7 school districts per semester.
11. Project schedule: This is an ongoing program that occurs every school semester, plus summer school sessions.

Our children should have a safe means to walk or bike to school everyday. I support this project.

I support this project in order to make school trips safer and more pleasant, help us be a healthier society, and cut down on vehicle miles
