For this segment of the corridor upgrade project, K-7 would be modified to freeway design standards and K-7 would have the arterial segments through Olathe enhanced. These improvements would better allow for motorists and freight shippers to utilize the roadway with better traffic flow. Transit could utilize the facility should service be expanded to this corridor and bicyclists and pedestrians could utilize the arterials through Olathe. K-7 would , howeve, be an access controlled facility.

Project Description: The first segment from 215th north to 175th would modify K-7 to freeway design standards while 125th to I-35 in Olathe would see construction of arterial street enhancements along K7 from the end of the 4 lane freeway at the signal at 127th south along Lone Elm to I‐35. The primary users would be motorists and freight shippers.
Scope: The roadway classification type varies considerably throughout its length. Each segment of the facility has its own characteristics and, in the K,-7 Corridor Management Plan it has been determined that the expressway portions should be upgraded to a fully access-controlled freeway. The first segment from 215th north to 175th would modify K-7 to freeway design standards while 125th to I-35 in Olathe would see construction of arterial street enhancements along K7 from the end of the 4-lane freeway at the signal at 127th south along Lone Elm to I‐35. The primary users would be motorists and freight shippers. The primary outcome would be the transition of a 2-lane facility to a 4-lane freeway and arterial enhancements within city limits.
