Project Purpose: * System expansion (added capacity) * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement * System operations and management )
Project Description: Construction of a flyover ramp at the I-70/I-435 interchange that replaces an existing interchange ramp of a different design. Primary users of the facility would be motorists and freight shippers.
Scope: Motorists and freight shippers would be served by the project. KDOT anticipates this improvement being required to address the transportation system’s needs that have arisen from the continued development within the Village West area. This flyover alternative eliminates the weaving movements in the interchange and greatly reduces mainline congestion through the primary interchange area. Improvements are expected to increase the capability of the system to handle increased traffic volumes and off-peak congestion.
