Project Purpose: * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement * System operations and management )
Project Description: As shown on the attached drawing, this project will increase the turning radius and provide dedicated turn lanes to facilitate the flow of large truck vehicles. This site is located on MoDOT Highway Route 2 and City of Harrisonvilles Independence Street. Large trucks moving freight to other destinations situates these vehicles in with local commuters including school bus traffic. Inadequate widths have caused interactions between the trucks and cars resulting in a high accident rate.
Scope: Project will serve automobile, truck, and pedestrian traffic. Convert existing 2-lane each direction intersection into 3 lanes each way, with turn lanes and signals, including pedestrian crossing signals. This project should have a high priority due to the two schools close by and the amount of pedestrian traffic in this area.

This intersection should be a priority for pedestrian and vehicular safety. I drive through the intersection daily between my house and work. Numerous times I have had to back up to allow a truck to make the turn, or be re routed as a truck has hit the powerline pole.
