Project Number: 1211
Organization: Prairie Village
Project Name: 75th Street Improvements
City(ies), County(ies), State: City of Prairie Village, Johnson County, Kansas
Routes, interchanges and/or intersections: 75th and Nall, 75th and Mission, 75th and State Line
Primary Project Mode: Highway/roadway
Supplementary Project Mode(s): * Active Transportation * Transit )
This roadway is an active route for trucks moving materials to destinations within our City and our near neighbors as 75th Street is a designated/allowed truck route. Widening the sidewalks to incorporate 8 feet of path encourages our growing pedestrian activity from activity nodes (homes to churches;homes to shops; and parks to parks). 75th Street is home to one of two bus routes in Prairie Village and encouraging pedestrian access to this roadway also opens up accessibility to this mode of transportation.
Project Purpose: * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement * System operations and management )
Project Description: The project will help connect two recognized activity nodes, one being downtown Overland Park, Kansas and the other being the Waldo area in Kansas City, Missouri. At a local level, it will encourage pedestrians to participate in active transportation by connecting local activity nodes of parks, shops, churches. The project will provide a way to increase access to transit. And the pavement will be rehabilitated in order to continue to meet the needs of the traveling public, the delivery of materials to businesses meeting regional demands, and transit schedules bringing Kansas Citians to both special events and daily work.
Scope: 75th Street is a four lane east west arterial roadway that connects Overland Park Kansas to Kansas City Missouri. The project will resurface the roadway, construct wide sidewalk on both sides utilizing retaining walls at locations where necessary due to grading challenges in order to provide a high level of access for pedestrians. Included in this project will be new signals at all intersections with connectivity to the Operation Green Light (OGL) system and new street lights.
