The intersection should also be reconstructed/restriped at that time to provide for left and right turn lanes. Primary users will be motorists and freight connected with the intermodal facility.
10. Scope: The project is approximately 1.3 miles long and will widen US 56 to 4-lanes, from the western city limits to Poplar Drive. The intersection at Waverly Road will be improved to provide turn lanes and a traffic signal. Due to the large skew angle, curves will be specifically designed to allow trucks to travel eastbound to southbound and westbound to northbound. Sidewalks and a trail will be included in the improvements.
11. Project schedule: The timing of the project will be dependent on development occurring on the western edge of Gardner. Anticipated time frame is 5 to 15 years.
