The project will incorporate multimodal systems to accommodate automobiles, transit, public safety vehicles, pedestrian and bicycles in order to maximize mobility throughout the corridor. The project will encourage walkability and bicycle access by providing sidewalks, bike lanes and shoulders that do not currently exist. These new facilities will provide connection to future pedestrian and bicycle facilities to the north along Kenneth Road.

Project Description: The intent of the project is to maximize mobility and access to existing and future land uses along the corridor, address system preservation and maintenance needs, provide for alternative transportation modes and improve system performance, efficiency, and safety. The primary users will be motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists. Motorists will benefit from the increased capacity and safety of the reconstructed roadway which includes shoulders and turn lanes. Bicyclists will be able to utilize the paved shoulders/bike lanes to negotiate the entire corridor and intersections. Pedestrians will be able to utilize the sidewalks to negotiate the entire corridor and intersections.
Scope: Reconstruction of Kenneth Road and State Line Road from an unimproved two-lane roadway to an improved two-lane roadway with shoulders, turn lanes and storm sewers throughout the 5 mile corridor. The project also includes a 10-foot sidewalk along one side of the roadway and a 5-foot sidewalk on the other. Roundabouts are planned at the intersections of 167th Street, 175th Street, 183rd Street, 191st Street and 199th Street. The project will provide multimodal systems to accommodate automobiles, transit, public safety vehicles, pedestrian and bicycles in order to maximize mobility throughout the corridor. The project will improve walkability and safety for pedestrians by providing ADA compliant sidewalks and crosswalks. The project will improve bicycle access and safety with the addition of on-street bike lanes/paved shoulders. The proposed roundabouts will provide for safe pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular movements as well as an opportunity to provide community focal points.
