Old 56 Hwy is an expressway that connects industrial, commercial, and residential developments. Old 56 Hwy is a truck route. Old 56 Hwy is an existing Johnson County Transit route. Construction of shared use paths along this corridor will connect to the Oregon Trail Park and Rolling Ridge Trail.
Project Purpose: * System expansion (added capacity) * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement )
Project Description: Widen Old 56 Hwy, between bridge and 151st St from 2 to 4 lanes. (Approximately 1 miles) Adding additional thru and turn lanes. Installing bike lanes. Installing sidewalks and shared use paths. Expected outcomes are added capacity, reduced and more reliable travel times, safer travel for all modes of transportation.
Scope: *Widen Old 56 Hwy, between bridge and 151st St from 2 to 4 lanes. (Approximately 1 mile) This will add capacity for motorists and improve travel times. Adding turn lanes at each intersection will also improve safety & capacity. *New Sidewalk or Shared Use Path constructed on each side of the street will provide safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
