MO D Hwy carries traffic between N Hwy, Running Horse Rd & the I-435 Interchange. As well, it connects two developing subdivisions of Seven Bridges and Lakes at Oakmont. Residents and school buses use D Hwy to access Running Horse Rd which leads to the main business district/Platte Co. R-III High School Complex in Platte City. Too, it directs residents to areas where they work, recreate, shop etc. locally and or to I-435 to connect with Kansas City, MO. A new walking/biking trail along D Hwy presents a future opportunity to connect with the existing Prairie Creek Greenway Trail. The current road condition is a narrow, hilly two lane road with minimal shoulders. The project would be an opportunity to install a bike/walking path for the benefit of recreation, improving safety for drivers, and mitigating drainage issues. The project would allow residents multiple options of travel.
Project Purpose: * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement * Other (Safety improvements and pedestrian trail.)
Project Description: Motorist and pedestrians will be the primary benefactor of this project. The main focus is to increase safety for the residents of this area who travel between I-435 and N Hwy. The current road is narrow and in need of shoulders. As well, vertical curves should be addressed to increase sight distances. As this area continues to grow, additional capacity will be needed. Other features to be address with this project would be preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the area and provide pedestrian/bicycle trails that could be connected to existing trails thru future projects.
Scope: This 1.5 mile long improvement project would consist of two lanes and appropriate shoulders. Roadside slopes and vertical curves would be adjusted for improved safety and visibility. Additional R/W would be acquired at this time to accommodate future lane additions.
