183rd is an arterial rural roadway that intersects directly with US-169/K-7. This stretch of 183rd Street connects local residential traffic with a four-lane divided highway where commercial and freight travel continues to grow yearly. Adding sidewalks, shared use paths, and bike lanes along this corridor will increase Multimodal options other than motorists.

Project Description: Improve 183rd Street from a 2 lane rural road to a city street with turn lanes at intersections. New Street alignment and right-of-way will be positioned for future 4-lane divided arterial expansion. Intersection improvements with KDOT at US-169/K-7 will look to increase transit safety, by adding an interchange. Improvements will result in added capacity, safer travel, and improved intersection with the highway.
Scope: (approximately 1 mile). The project will consist of improving 183rd Street between Lone Elm Road and Woodland Road from a 2 lane road county road section with turn lanes at intersections. New Street alignment and right-of-way will be positioned for future 4-lane divided arterial expansion. Improvements will include pavement, medians, curb and gutter, storm sewer, street lights, landscaping, and all work pertinent to completing the project. This will add capacity for motorists and improve travel times. Adding turn lanes at each intersection will also improve safety and capacity. New Sidewalk and/or Shared Use Path will be constructed on each side of the street will provide safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. A separate interchange project at 183rd Street & 169 Hwy will be constructed within this projects limits.
