Active Transportation, Freight, Transit: this is an arterial street that connects commercial and residential developments. 159th Street is a permitted truck route. The City’s 2016 Transportation Master Plan identified 159th Street for future bike lanes and shared use path. With an enhanced roadway system transit routes can be expanded.

9. Project description: Capacity improvement from a 2 lane to 4 lane
10. Scope: (Approximately 1 mile) This project will widen 159th Street between Lone Elm Road and K-7/US169 from a two-lane street to a four-lane divided street. Improvements will include pavement, medians, curb and gutter, storm sewer, street lights, landscaping, and all work pertinent to completing the project. This will add capacity for motorists and improve travel times. Adding turn lanes at each intersection will also improve safety and capacity. New Sidewalk, Shared Use Path, and Bike Lanes will be constructed on each side of the street will provide safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
