Active Transportation, Freight Transit: this is an arterial street that connects commercial, warehousing, light industrial, residential developments, park and athletic fields . The City’s 2016 Transportation Master Plan identified Lone Elm Road for future bike lanes and shared use path. With enhanced roadway network, transit services can be expanded.
Project Purpose: * System expansion (added capacity) * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement )
Project Description: Capacity improvements from a rural 2 lane to 4 lane divided arterial. This segment of Lone Elm Road is a part of the regional bike plan.
Scope: (Approximately 1 mile) This project will widen Lone Elm Road between 159th Street and 167th Street from a two-lane county road to a four-lane divided arterial street. Improvements will include pavement, medians, curb and gutter, storm sewer, street lights, landscaping, and all work pertinent to completing the project. This will add capacity for motorists and improve travel times. Adding turn lanes at each intersection will also improve safety and capacity. New Sidewalk, Shared Use Path, and Bike Lanes will be constructed on each side of the street will provide safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
