Independence

Project Number: 1059
Organization: Independence
Project Name: M-7 Highway Improvements
City(ies), County(ies), State: Most of the project is in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri. The southern connection to prior improvements is within Blue Springs.
Routes, interchanges and/or intersections: The project will include intersection improvements at Pink Hill Road, Strode Road, Highway FF, Truman Road, 78 Highway, and Bundschu Road. There would be interchange improvements at 24 Highway.

The project makes highway improvements by constructing a four lane highway. There would be sidewalks and bicycle facilities to make this a multi-modal facility. There would be improved freight access to the Lake City Ammunition Plant and an industrial park. The goal is to better serve all transportation modes, provide more interconnectivity between multimodal options, and improve freight movements along the highway.
Project Purpose: * System expansion (added capacity) * System preservation, rehabilitation or replacement * System operations and management )
Project Description: The project will reconstruct 7 Highway between Pink Hill Road and 24 Highway. The existing two lane highway will be widened for four traffic lanes. This will increase the system capacity. The four lane highway will be a safe and direct way to travel for motorists and freight. The Lake City Ammunition Plant is designated as a freight destination and as an activity center. Bicycle facilities will be built on the highway to provide a safe travel route for bicyclists. There will be sidewalks constructed for pedestrians to use.
Scope: The project reconstructs 7 Highway to build a new four lane wide highway. The project is from Pink Hill Road to 24 Highway, a distance of 5.8 miles. The four lane highway will provide for safe travel by motorists and freight travel. There will be bicycle facilities for safe travel by bicyclists. Sidewalks will be built for pedestrian use. A new interchange is planned at 24 Highway. This is next to Fort Osage High School. Each intersection will be studied to determine the turn lanes needed to provide for safety. Safety improvements will be provided at an at-grade railroad crossing.
