Protecting older adults against fires, floods, tornadoes and other natural disasters can pose special challenges.

Is your organization prepared to serve older adults before,
during and after a disaster?

The Health Care Coalition and Community Disaster Resiliency Network invite you to participate in the upcoming seminar "Disaster Preparedness Planning for Older Adults: Aging in the Community and Residing in Long-term Care (LTC) Facilities" on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019. The seminar will help those who serve older adults both in LTC facilities and in the community strengthen their emergency preparedness capabilities and improve response during times of disasters.

Learn how to conduct your own preparedness exercise and listen to a panel of experts offer an introduction to lifelines: safety and security; food, water, and shelter; health and medical; energy; communications; transportation; and hazardous materials. Participants have the opportunity to choose three different sessions to attend in the afternoon. Review sessions here.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Gain an understanding of the importance of disaster preparedness planning for older adults and their unique needs.
  • Learn how to conduct exercise planning and facilitation.
  • Discuss emergency preparedness planning topics focused on the needs of older adults that your organization serves.

REGISTRATION: This seminar is free to attend. However, registration is required. Each organization is encouraged to send at least two staff.
