Planning directors from cities and counties throughout the Kansas City region are invited to this day-long retreat. We'll identify issues of common interest and concern, identify how to collaborate more effectively and efficiently, and discuss staffing and organizational issues common to our planning departments.
Peter Pollock, FAICP, Manager of Western Programs for Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, will facilitate the retreat. The day will include a light breakfast, lunch and a mid-afternoon snack. There will be an informal networking event after the retreat.
Topics we'll explore include, but are not limited to:
- Lessons learned around redevelopment, infill and higher density development in suburban areas.
- Evolution of retail industry and the impact on our communities and planning efforts.
- Potential peer exchanges.
- Staffing and organizational issues common to planning departments or functions.
- Regional transportation issues and local planning around them (funding, connected and autonomous vehicles, transit, economic development and safety).
