Registration is open for the
Green Commute Challenge!

June 1 to August 28, 2015

This region-wide contest encourages commuters to drive
less during ozone season — when ozone pollution can be
a problem in the Kansas City region — by providing points
and prizes for carpooling, riding the bus, bicycling, walking
and telecommuting.

Why should you join the challenge?

Save money!According to the American Automobile Association, commuters pay about $58 for every 100 miles travelled to work. Driving fewer miles equals money saved.

Help keep our region's air clean!

Leave your car at home just twice a week during the challenge! If your commute is 20 miles round trip, you'll prevent up to 272 pounds of harmful emissions that contribute to ozone pollution.

Win cool prizes!

Interested in winning a cool prize? By tracking activities that reduce the miles you drive, you can qualify for daily, weekly and monthly prizes.

Compete!

Your organization's Green Commute Challenge team competes against other organizations across the Kansas City region to find out which workplace can save the most "green."

By the end of the challenge in 2014, 28 employer teams and 421 participants:

  • Logged 32,982 trips.
  • Reduced their driving by 539,193 miles.
  • Prevented 393,723 pounds of emissions.
  • Saved $101,387 in driving costs.

The Green Commute Challenge is sponsored by the Mid-America Regional Council's RideShare and Air Quality programs.
