2015 Telecommunicator Appreciation Celebration

OPA Award Recipients

The Kansas City Regional 9-1-1 System will honor the emergency communications personnel responsible for processing 9-1-1 calls during the 18th Annual Telecommunicators Appreciation Celebration and Outstanding Performance Awards on Friday, April 17, from 6–10 p.m., at the Kansas City Airport Marriott in Kansas City, Missouri.

This event is held each year during National Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week — a time to honor the unsung heroes who staff the nation's 9-1-1 centers and other emergency dispatch locations.

Outstanding Performance Awards will be presented to the following individuals:

  • Everyday Hero Award: Zachary Hodges, Johnson County Sheriff's Office
  • Outstanding Individual Performance in a Critical Incident: Teri Sandlin, Blue Springs Police Department
  • Outstanding Team Performance in a Critical Incident: Erica Diviney, Hollie Meeks, Taylor Mills, Jennifer Patton and Amanda Rank, Kansas City Kansas Police Department
  • Outstanding Supervisory Performance: Eileen Swatzell, Independence Police Department
  • Outstanding Training Performance: Danny Crockett and Larry Henderson, Kansas City Missouri Police Department
  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Walt Way, Johnson County Emergency Communications

Event details:

Attendees are invited to show up between 5 and 6 p.m. for an opportunity to mix and mingle with friends and colleagues from around the region. Hors d'oeuvres will be served while you enjoy your favorite beverage. A member of our staff will take candid photos, so you and your friends can commemorate the event.

Master of Ceremonies

Brad Porter

We are excited to have Brad Porter returning as our emcee for the evening. Porter is an Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter with Time Warner Cable's SportsChannel. He regularly covers the biggest sporting events, including the Big 12 Basketball Championships, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, Sporting KC and major college and high school games.

Entertainment

The Shawnee Mission North Strolling Strings includes 50 talented members playing the violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano, and are known for their creative and innovative style. They are a delight to watch and are sure to entertain.

The Dueling Piano Guys have performed with some of Kansas City's biggest acts. Their song list includes Pharrell, Queen, Prince, 80s hits, Elton John, Garth Brooks, Jimmy Buffet and more hits from every generation. Come ready to listen, laugh and sing!

The evening will continue with music and conversation with your fellow telecommunicators.
